PETE'S DRAGONS

This year the ECG committee has chosen Pete's Dragons a local, Devon based charity, that provides support and comfort to those impacted by suicide.

Pete’s Dragons was established in 2010 after Diva Dragon’s little brother, Pete, took his own life aged 24. For the first four years, Pete’s Dragons was a fundraising group that ran annual challenges to raise money for charities working in Search and Rescue, Suicide Prevention and Bereavement Services. The band of Dragons grew and grew and in 2014 the decision was made to dedicate efforts towards providing vital postvention support and so Pete’s Dragons became a registered charity.

Suicide Bereavement has been described as “grief with the volume turned up”, it effects on families and communities are devastating and tragic.

Pete’s Dragons understand that everyone effected by suicide will have a unique experience through the grieving process. It is extremely important that timely and appropriate support is available. Therefore, Pete’s Dragons provide a bespoke service without waiting lists to anyone in Devon and North Somerset. The support Pete’s Dragons provides takes many forms and includes opportunities such as listening and emotional support, counselling, holistic therapies, wellbeing workshops and weekend retreats, children and family activity days and financial assistance.

The dragon team are specialists in the field of postvention (suicide bereavement), intervention and prevention the Charity offers an extensive range of training and operates the real time suicide surveillance system across Devon with the aim of being able to use the data to prevent similar deaths in the future.

Everyone at Pete’s Dragons would like to thank all of the members at Exeter Construction Group for their incredible support and generosity.
